Devotions

Eucharistic Adoration

First Fridays from October to June and every Friday in Lent after the last morning Mass until Benediction at 8:15 PM.

This is the custom of taking the Eucharist from the tabernacle and placing it in the vessel in which it is ordinarily kept (in the ciborium, in pyxide) or in a vessel that enables the consecrated Bread to be seen (in a monstrance or ostensorium).   The celebration of the Eucharist does not occur while the sacrament is exposed.   Normally, exposition lasts as long as there are faithful present to pray in silence or to join in prayers, songs or readings.  Exposition ends with Benediction, a blessing with the Blessed Sacrament.

Novenas

Miraculous Medal:  Mondays, after the 9:00 AM Mass
St. Anthony: Tuesdays, after the 9:00 AM Mass

Novena (no-VEE-nuh): A period of nine consecutive days or one day for nine consecutive weeks in which a person prays according to a certain formula.  Usually, these prayers are for a particular intention or in honor of a particular saint, or to highlight a mystery in Christ's life.   The practice first developed in the seventeenth century, but the spirit of the novena stretches back much further, recalling the period of time (nine days) between the Ascension of Our Lord and the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
